UMASS Western Team ~ Kentucky, 2011

Under the guidance of Coach Amy Hollowell, the University of Massachusetts Western Equestrian team made history twice at the IHSA National Team competition at Lexington, Kentucky this spring.

This year marked the first time a New England Western team qualified to attend the national competition and finish in the Top Ten as rider Amanda Golembeski brought home that individual honor in Reining.

When interviewed following the competition, Coach Amy Hollowell was ecstatic.  “I could not be more proud of this team.  As a team and to the individuals, they have put in some tremendous work and without the resources enjoyed by other team disciplines. Their hard work got them to a national competition where they took the opportunity to show that they could be competitive and make history too.”

With results like this, the future looks brighter for increased support of Western disciplines at New England colleges.
